L.V. BERKNER HIGH SCHOOL STEM ACADEMY SCHOOL PROFILE. RISD is home to more than 11,000 bilingual students who speak at least 76 different languages and dialects. Top languages spoken in RISD include English, Spanish, Arabic, Amharic, Vietnamese, Pashto, and Urdu.
Lloyd V. Berkner High School in Richardson, Texas was named after him in 1969, as was Lloyd V. Berkner Hall at the University of Texas at Dallas. The lunar crater Berkner was named in his honor. [11]
Berkner was a force to be reckoned with in the early years of the Texas Academic Decathlon, and was considered exceptionally competitive, giving crosstown rival J.J. Pearce a challenge in the 1986 Texas Academic Decathlon State Championship. Pearce would ultimately win, with Berkner in third.
Lloyd V. Berkner was undoubtedly one of the best-liked men in the whole field of science and engineering. He played a significant role in the scientific effort of World War II and, after it, in the explosive development of public funding for science and technology.
