  2. Aaron Sachs (1923-2014) was a native New Yorker who grew up in the Bronx. After studying clarinet with private teachers, in 1941, still in his teens, Sachs landed his first job with Babe Russin, playing clarinet and alto saxophone, the latter through self-training.

He won the Esquire new-star award in 1945 and progressed with spells in the Benny Goodman, Charlie Ventura and Buddy Rich orchestras.
