Mathis James Reed (September 6, 1925 – August 29, 1976) [1] was an American blues musician and songwriter. His particular style of electric blues [2] was popular with a wide variety of audiences.

Early years. Reed was born on a plantation near Dunleith, Mississippi in 1925, where he lived until the age of 15. He learned the basics of harmonica and guitar from local semi-professional player Eddie Taylor, who became a close friend.
