Il y a 4 jours · Barthes says of Mallarmé’s quote: “To create (poetically) is to empty, to exhaust, to deaden the shock (the sound) in favor of the Timbre.” I understand this again as a therapeutic movement – to empty ourselves of something, to deaden the shock of something in favor of the timbre, in other words to create music out of something that may have, before being written, only been loud.

Footnote 8 The potency of myth in this regard, lies in obscuring alternative narratives or complexity in favour of selectivity.
