Poggio Bustone (Poiano: Ru Poju) is a comune (municipality) in the Province of Rieti in the Italian region of Latium, located about 70 kilometres (43 miles) northeast of Rome and about 11 kilometres (7 mi) north of Rieti.
Poggio Bustone is famous for St Francis, who stayed there for several years. Here, perched on the cliff where a little one stands today, an angel confirmed to him the remission of sins. World War II brought death and violence, but also irreparable damage to the sacred places and works of art housed in the ancient monastery.
Pour cette raison, la vallée de Rieti et en particulier les ermitages de Fonte Colombo, La Foresta, Poggio Bustone et Greccio (lieu devenu célèbre pour son lien avec la naissance de la crèche) sont indissociables de l'histoire des Franciscains.
