Coolidge too was a successful singer through the 70s, and the inspiration behind the Leon Russell written Joe Cocker hit Delta Lady .
Kristofferson and his then-wife, Rita Coolidge, recorded a duet version of "Please Don't Tell Me How the Story Ends" in 1978, the year before they divorced.
