Il y a 4 jours · Saxophonist Stanley Turrentine was born on this day (April 5) in 1934 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. A leading figure in the soul-jazz movement, Turrentine recorded the album Sugar for CTI Records in 1970, following a long association with Blue Note.

The album also shows Parlan’s sense of musical adventure, with Stanley Turrentine’s Borderline, a minor blues in the usual AABA form but with a bridge of 10 bars and verses of eight bars each, which works surprisingly well.
