“Genius” has this great mid-tempo groove that is matched by Zevon’s take on a breakup. You broke my heart into smithereens/That took Genius is such clever wordplay and pardon the pun but genius.
“I’ll Slow You Down” has one of Zevon's best vocal performances ever. I also love the harmonies on this track. There's a yearning in his voice that reminds me of Roger Mcguinn of the Byrds or even Tom Petty. “Hostage-O” is this simple acoustic ballad that sounds way more powerful then it should.
