Identification. Gabon is a French equatorial country, home to over forty ethnic groups. The largest group is the Fang, forming 40 percent of the population. Other major groups are the Teke, the Eshira, and the Pounou. As in many African countries, the borders of Gabon do not correspond to the borders of the ethnic groups.

From 2010 to 2016, oil accounted for approximately 80% of Gabon’s exports, 45% of its GDP, and 60% of its state budget revenues. Gabon faces fluctuating international prices for its oil, timber, and manganese exports.
Le Gabon fut une colonie de l' Afrique-Équatoriale française jusqu'à son indépendance en 1960. De 1967 à 2009, il est dirigé par un même président, Omar Bongo, qui bénéficie de l'exploitation des diverses ressources naturelles du pays.
