Le groove metal (ou post-thrash) est un sous-genre du heavy metal, dérivé du thrash metal. Il apparaît au début des années 1990 avec des groupes comme Pantera, Exhorder et Sepultura.

Heavily influenced by thrash metal, groove metal features raspy singing and screaming, down-tuned guitars, heavy guitar riffs, and syncopated rhythms. Groove metal is usually slower than thrash.
