There are three known chambers inside the Great Pyramid. The lowest was cut into the bedrock, upon which the pyramid was built, but remained unfinished.
The Great Pyramid, or the Pyramid of Khufu, is the oldest and the tallest of the three pyramids towering over Giza. Constructed c. 2551–2528 BCE, it originally stood at 481.4 feet (147 meters), or about 45 stories.

Construite sur un socle rocheux, la pyramide avait initialement une hauteur d'environ 146,58 m(280 coudées royales égyptiennes). Elle était plus haute que la basilique Saint-Pierrede Rome, qui s'élève à 139 m. Mais l'érosion l'a réduite de 9,58 m(environ dix-huit coudées royales) pour atteindre 137 mde hauteur[3].
