The MDA Labor Day Telethon was an annual telethon held on (starting the night before and throughout) Labor Day in the United States to raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA). The Muscular Dystrophy Association was founded in 1950 with hopes of gaining the American public's interest. [2]
Hosted for many years by Jerry Lewis, the telethon featured top stars from the world of music, comedy, and Broadway and was like no other show on earth.
The MDA Kevin Hart Kids telethon will air for two hours on Saturday, October 24th at 8 p.m. (streaming partners will be announced later), supporting both the MDA and Hart’s Help from the Hart charity, which supports underserved communities.

The Telethon. In 1956, Jerry and his partner Dean Martin co-hosted a television program from New York City’s famed Carnegie Hall to benefit the fledgling Muscular Dystrophy Association of America (MDAA). Thanksgivings 1957 and 1959 brought the first two telethons hosted by Jerry.
“The Muscular Dystrophy Association is deeply saddened by the death of beloved comedian, performer, humanitarian and former MDA telethon star and national chairman Jerry Lewis. MDA would not be the organization it is today if it were not for Jerry’s tireless efforts on behalf of “his kids.”
