John William Cheever est un écrivain américain. Il est surtout renommé pour ses nouvelles. Il en a écrit plus de deux cent. Le recueil "The stories of John Cheever" (1978) a obtenu le Prix Pulitzer de la Fiction en 1979. L'œuvre de Cheever compte aussi cinq romans, dont "The Wapshot Chronicle" (1957), lauréat du National Book Award en 1958.
