Brigadier General Sir Henry Montgomery Lawrence, KCB (28 June 1806 – 4 July 1857) was a British military officer, surveyor, administrator and statesman in British India.

After joining the Bengal artillery in 1823, Lawrence served at the capture of Arakan in the First Anglo-Burmese War (1824–26). He studied the Urdu, Hindi, and Persian.

Sir Henry Lawrence (in full Henry Montgomery Lawrence) (28 June 1806-4 July 1857) was a senior British officer and administrator of British India. He was the first Chief Commissioner of the Punjab after its annexation by the British, following the Second Anglo-Sikh War.
Henry Lawrence is best remembered as 'Lawrence of Lucknow' for organising the defence of the Residency at Lucknow during the Indian Mutiny (1857-1859). He died there on 4 July 1857 from wounds received during the siege.
