Volney Everett "Curley" Davis (February 14, 1902 – July 20, 1979) was an American bank robber and Great Depression-era outlaw. A longtime Oklahoma bandit, he was the boyfriend of Edna Murray and an associate of both the John Dillinger and Alvin Karpis - Barker gangs during the 1930s.
April 1934-Doc Barker and associate Volney Davis get a surprise visit from John Dillinger and Homer Van Meter, helping them bury their comrade John "Red" Hamilton after Hamilton died from gunshot wounds sustained in a shootout in St. Paul, Minnesota.
Murray was working as a waitress when she met robber Volney Davis, who became her lover. He was imprisoned for life in 1918. She moved to Kansas City, Missouri where she joined her younger sister Doris, who was living with criminal Emory Connell.
Edna Murray was a notorious outlaw who escaped from prison several times and robbed banks with Volney Davis. She was also known as "Rabbits" for her escape skills and "The Kissing Bandit" for kissing male victims.
On January 22, 1935, Volney Davis, the petitioner herein, along with a number of other persons, was indicted for conspiracy to kidnap and transport Bremer, in violation of 18 U.S.C. § 408 (a), now Section 1201.
Soon, a number of Barker’s confederates—including his brother Fred, Karpis, Harry Campbell, Fred Goetz, Russell Gibson, Volney Davis, and others—were linked to the crime.
15 janv. 2010 · Dock's acquaintance, Volney Davis, was also soon released. Several experts on crime history have speculated that Barker and Davis benefited from the bribery of Oklahoma politicians, probably a state senator.
