Sir William Sterndale Bennett (Sheffield, 13 avril 1816 — St. John's Wood, Londres, 1 er février 1875) est le fondateur de la Bach Society, qui organise la première audition anglaise de la Passion selon Saint Matthieu de Jean-Sébastien Bach, à la Hanover Square Chambres à Londres le 6 avril 1854.
Sir William Sterndale Bennett (13 April 1816 – 1 February 1875) was an English composer, pianist, conductor and music educator. At the age of ten Bennett was admitted to the London Royal Academy of Music (RAM), where he remained for ten years.
Nommé chef d'orchestre de la Philharmonic Society en 1855, Bennett devient professeur de musique à Cambridge l'année suivante. En 1866, il prend la direction de la Royal Academy of Music. Fait chevalier en 1871, William Sterndale Bennett meurt le 1 er février 1875, à Londres.

Sir William Sterndale Bennett was a British pianist, composer, and conductor, a notable figure in the musical life of his time. In 1826 Bennett became a chorister at King’s College, Cambridge, and also entered the Royal Academy of Music to study violin, piano, and composition.
