Uwe Preuss verbrachte seine Kindheit in São Paulo, Brasilien, da sein Vater dort als Ingenieur tätig war. Wieder in der DDR erlernte Preuss den Beruf des Industriekaufmannes. 1984 stellte er einen Ausreiseantrag. [1] 1985 konnte er ausreisen und kam nach West-Berlin zum Schauspielstudium (1986 bis 1990) an die Hochschule der Künste [2].
