Tuskegee University (Tuskegee or TU; formerly known as the Tuskegee Institute) is a private, historically black land-grant university in Tuskegee, Alabama. It was founded on July 4th in 1881 by the Alabama Legislature. The campus was designated as the Tuskegee Institute National Historic Site by the National Park Service in 1974.
3 mai 2024 · In 1881, Booker T. Washington arrived in Alabama and started building Tuskegee Institute both in reputation and literally brick by brick. He recruited the best and the brightest to come and teach here including George Washington Carver who arrived in 1896.
Tuskegee's mission has always been service to people. Stressing the need to educate the whole person, that is, the hand and the heart as well as the mind, This institution founded by Dr. Booker T. Washington was acclaimed--first by Alabama and then by the nation for the soundness and vigor of its educational programs and principles.

6 févr. 2024 · In 1881, Tuskegee Institute in Alabama officially opened its doors to America’s former slaves. In time, the university would gain recognition for its superior training of African Americans in industrial trades that helped improve their economic conditions and way of life.
Tuskegee Institute. Lewis Adams, a former slave and successful tradesman, was the founding force behind the establishment of a school at Tuskegee. He made a deal to deliver African-American voters in the 1880 election.
