John McCabe CBE (21 April 1939 – 13 February 2015) was a British composer and pianist. He created works in many different forms, including symphonies , ballets , and solo works for the piano. He served as director of the London College of Music from 1983 to 1990. [1]
This collection brings together several significant recordings of the music of John McCabe, none of which has appeared before on CD. The First Symphony, heard here in its only recording to date, is a work of striking emotional directness and explosive energy.

John McCabe decided to be a composer at the age of five-and-a-half. He studied in Manchester and Munich, and then embarked on an international career as composer and pianist (his complete CD survey of Haydn’s Piano Sonatas has become a landmark recording).
