Phillips also assisted Frederiksen with his solo album Equilibrium in 1999, which also featured artists like Neal Schon, Steve Porcaro, Jason Scheff, Ron Wikso, Rocket Ritchotte, Dave Amato, Bruce Gowdy and many others. He later explained, “I tried to do without [music] but I was miserable.” The album was critically acclaimed in Europe and Japan.

Jason Randolph Scheff (born April 16, 1962) is an American bassist, singer, and songwriter who was a frontman for the American rock band Chicago from 1985 to 2016. Replacing former lead vocalist Peter Cetera, Scheff was the longest-serving bassist/vocalist of Chicago.

In mid-1985, 23-year-old Jason Scheff joined the multi-platinum Chicago, after Peter Cetera had departed the band to emphasize his solo career. Scheff was noted for his ability to closely duplicate Cetera’s vocal parts on Chicago’s existing hits.
