The story, told in a series of flashbacks by newspaper reporter Pete Ferreday (John Ireland), is about a high-school basketball star, Johnny Long (Marshall TYhompson), who gets a full-ride scholarship to a fictional eastern-seaboard college who is poor and a weakling.
A college basketball star gets mixed up with a gambler who's willing to pay him for a little point-shaving. He reluctantly starts shaving the points and taking the money, and can now afford an expensive engagement ring for his girlfriend.
