28 mai 2021 · Barney Bigard is one of the outstanding jazz clarinetists of the twentieth century. His bluesy, sensual tone and extraordinary agility graced the albums of the King Oliver, and Jelly Roll Morton before he became Duke Ellington’s regular clarinetist from 1927 to 1942.
The 1946 Hot Seven had Vic Dickenson on trombone and Barney Bigard, who by this time had left the Ellington band on clarinet. It also benefited from the legendary Red Callender/Zutty Singleton bass/drums combination.
7 mai 2021 · It was the only time that Armstrong recorded with Hodges. As you might expect, the results are sublime on “Long Long Journey” and “Snafu.” Next there are recorded sessions with late period Hot Seven with Vic Dickenson and Barney Bigard.
