27 avr. 2019 · The Jazz Oracle CD Roger Wolfe Kahn 1925-1932 has 25 of the finest jazz-oriented recordings by Kahn’s orchestra. Most famous is “She’s A Great Great Girl” from March 14, 1928. Miff Mole, the band’s regular trombonist, could not make it and Jack Teagarden (who was not yet well known) was called.
In 1932, Shaw joined the Roger Wolfe Kahn Orchestra and made several recordings with the outfit including "It Don't Mean a Thing (If It Ain't Got That Swing)" and "Fit as a Fiddle". Leader of bands. In 1935, he first gained attention with his "Interlude in B-flat" at a swing concert at the Imperial Theater in New York.
The Yacht Party - (1932) Directed by Roy Mack – cast: Roger Wolfe Kahn, Gertrude Niesen, Melissa Mason (contortionist), Eaton Boys, Chauncey Morehouse (drums), Artie Shaw (clarinet). The film is shot on board a yacht and includes Kahn and his Orchestra playing " Way Down Yonder in New Orleans ", " Dinah " and "Lullaby of the Leaves".
13 juin 2019 · Art Shaw with Roger Wolfe Kahn’s band – November 1932 at Hotel Pennsylvania, NYC. Kahn is in the center with baton; Shaw is over his left shoulder. Some of the sidemen have been identified. Shaw left Kahn’s employ in mid-November of 1932, when Kahn disbanded for lack of work.
