1 déc. 1998 · The pieces range from the upbeat "Sophistry" propelled by Mulgrew Miller at the piano to the ballad "In the Garden o Thought" which benefits from Steve Wilson's soprano saxophone and Steve Turre's Trombone. A Cloud of Red Dust is a fine first endeavor from a multitalented artist.
1 mars 1999 · The percussion starts up, and it’s time for Mulgrew Miller – he’s relaxed where Harris was frantic, and his bit is warmer than his comping was. This warmth returns us to the theme, and things get really busy with Harris and Osby both sounding great as they trade a riff into the fadeout.
In 1998, he performed on vibraphonist Stefon Harris’s album A Cloud of Red Dust. In 1999, Miller began to work with bassist Niels-Henning Orsted Pedersen, and together they recorded Duets, an album featuring the music of pianist Duke Ellington and bassist Jimmy Blanton.
Pianist Mulgrew Miller makes a fine showing with Harris's tunes, often staking out a more harmonically exploratory realm. Harris digs subtlety as well, reaching back to Milt Jackson's bag for some of his shadings and nuances.
