Columbia Grammar & Preparatory School is a fully independent, non-sectarian school governed by a board of trustees composed of alumni and parents. The school is accredited by the New York State Association of Independent Schools, the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools, and the New York State Board of Regents.

Welcome to Columbia Grammar and Preparatory School! When our School was founded in 1764, its mission was a simple one: to provide young men of the New York Royal Colony with the Latin and Greek grammar they would need to study the classics at King’s College, now known as Columbia University.
Originally established as a boys’ preparatory school for Kings College (or Columbia University as it’s known today), Columbia Grammar School functioned for 100 years under the direct auspices of the college, providing more than half of their student body.
