Saxon Switzerland (German: Sächsische Schweiz) is a hilly climbing area and national park in the Elbe Sandstone Mountains. It is located around the Elbe valley south-east of Dresden in Saxony, Germany, adjoining Bohemian Switzerland in the Czech Republic. Together with the Czech part, the region is known as Saxon-Bohemian Switzerland.
Saxon Switzerland is an intensively fissured and rocky canyon landscape. The highest peak of the National Park, the Großer Winterberg, is at 556 meters (1,814 feet) above sea level, and is only a short distance from the valley of the Elbe river at 110 to 120 meters (360 to 390 feet).
Saxon Switzerland is Germany’s only rock National Park. The landscape of the Elbe Sandstone Mountains, eroded to picturesque rugged scenery of Cretaceous origin, provides a fascinating micro-climate and is home to a real treasure of rare animals and plant species.
La Suisse saxonne (en allemand Sächsische Schweiz) est un macrogéochore de la région naturelle des montagnes et hauts-plateaux de Saxe. Elle comprend la partie allemande du massif gréseux de l'Elbe. Elle se situe entre Pirna, au sud-est de Dresde, et la frontière avec la République tchèque .
19 juil. 2022 · Saxon Switzerland is a paradise for walkers and hikers. An elaborate network of trails leads to breathtaking viewing points and through deep gorges. The trails are marked with different colours and are well signposted, so that nobody gets lost.
Créé le 12 septembre 1990, il couvre une superficie de 9 350 ha, en deux zones distinctes, au cœur de la partie allemande du massif gréseux de l'Elbe, en Suisse saxonne. Le parc national jouxte le parc national de la Suisse bohémienne (en tchèque: České Švýcarsko) en République tchèque.
