Leif Erikson (en norrois : Leifr Eiríksson ; en islandais : Leifur Eiríksson, parfois Ericson en français), né vers 970 à Eiríksstaðir en Islande et mort vers 1020 probablement au Groenland, est un explorateur islandais.Il est l'une des personnalités connues de l'expansion viking. Il est le premier Européen connu à avoir découvert l'Amérique du Nord continentale.
Biographie. Leif Erikson, also known as Leif the Lucky (c. 970s – c. 1018 to 1025), was a Norse explorer who is thought to have been the first European to set foot on continental America, approximately half a millennium before Christopher Columbus. According to the sagas of Icelanders, he established a Norse settlement at Vinland, which is usually interpreted as being coastal North America.
Erickson enlisted in the U.S. Navy during World War II.Rising to the rank of Chief Petty Officer in the Naval Aviation Photographic Unit, he served as a military photographer, shooting film in combat zones, and as an instructor.
