A Society Sensation is a 1918 American silent comedy-drama film directed by Paul Powell and starring Carmel Myers and Rudolph Valentino. It was released by Universal Pictures under their imprint Bluebird Photoplays. When it was re-released in 1924, it was cut down to 24 minutes to include mostly scenes that feature Valentino, although it was Carmel Myers who originally starred in the film.

Now, there are obviously cases where the less-famous newcomer does indeed outshine the established star but let’s not be unfair to Nazamova and Myers.

User Reviews. Carmel Myers is in the title role of A Society Sensation. She is called that because she gets introduced into San Francisco society by Lydia Yeamans Titus one of the grand dames of it. Actually Myers is the daughter of fisherman Alfred Allen. As you can see this story has some Pygmalion type elements in it.
