Ford went on to complete his 1974–77 presidency without further assassination attempts. In 1981, the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum was dedicated in Ford's hometown of Grand Rapids, Michigan. On August 23, 1989, the Office of the United States Attorney in Sacramento donated Fromme's pistol to the museum.
