The USC Thornton School of Music Opera Program is one of America’s premier training grounds for provocative productions of classic and modern masterpieces. About The USC Thornton Opera program is an integral part of the Vocal Arts Department , providing career development opportunities for: singers, coaches, pianists, conductors and directors.
His USC portfolio includes years of executive service during the formation of the USC Glorya Kaufman School of Dance. Kessler studied at USC Thornton and is an accomplished saxophone and woodwind player. His musical pursuits outside of the office include big bands, rock, and saxophone quartets, as well as singing in a local men’s choir.
Rushen received an Honorary Doctorate of Music degree in 2005 from Boston’s prestigious Berklee College of Music for her “outstanding contribution to music and culture” where she is also the Ambassador For Artistry In Education. Most recently, she has been appointed Chair of Popular Music at the USC Thornton School of Music.
The Artist Diploma program is the most prestigious performance program offered by the USC Thornton School of Music. Total enrollment in this program is limited to four students. The program is designed for the artistic refinement of those who have already demonstrated great potential for a successful career as a solo performer.
Early Action (EA) is not available for majors requiring a portfolio or audition, which includes all undergraduate Thornton majors. Therefore, all first-year/freshman applicants to the Thornton School must select the “Regular Decision” option for the “Preferred admission plan” in the Common Application.
