Les Misérables, novel by Victor Hugo, published in French in 1862.It was an instant popular success and was quickly translated into several languages. Set in the Parisian underworld and plotted like a detective story, the work follows the fortunes of the convict Jean Valjean, a victim of society who has been imprisoned for 19 years for stealing a loaf of bread.
François-Victor Hugo, né le 28 octobre 1828 à Paris où il est mort de la tuberculose le 26 décembre 1873, est le quatrième des cinq enfants de Victor Hugo et Adèle Foucher. Il est connu surtout pour sa traduction en français des œuvres de William Shakespeare , dont la série complète parait en 18 volumes entre 1859 et 1866 [ 1 ] .

Victor Hugo byl třetím synem Josepha Léopolda Sigisberta Huga a Sophie Trébuchetové. Narodil se v roce 1802 v Besançonu a žil ve Francii po většinu svého života. Jeho bratři byli Abel Joseph Hugo (nar. 1798) a Eugéne Hugo (nar. 1800). Doba dětství Viktora Huga byla poznamenána politickými zvraty.
Hugo va ser un feroç abolicionista. Durant la seua infantesa va assistir a execucions capitals, i durant tota la seua vida hi va lluitar en contra. El darrer dia d'un condemnat ( 1829) i Claude Gueux ( 1834 ), dues novel·les de joventut, subratllen alhora la crueltat, la injustícia i la ineficàcia del càstig suprem.
