Biographie. Né en 1923 à Cambridge, Richard Attenborough se passionne pour le théâtre dès son adolescence. A 18 ans il commence une acrrière d'acteur mais la Seconde Guerre Mondiale vient mettre un frein à cet élan. A son retour, il se spécialise dans les films de guerre où il joue les commandants fougueux et héroiques.
