She was the subject of This Is Your Life in December 1998 when she was surprised by Michael Aspel at the Sylvia Young Theatre School.. Young was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire in the Queen's Birthday Honours List of 2005 for her services to the arts.

The Sylvia Young Theatre School has high expectations of students academically as well as vocationally and places considerable emphasis on the academic curriculum. Our aim is for all students to have a wide range of academic options open to them when they leave SYTS at the end of year 11 if they decide to pursue an academic pathway either alongside, or instead of, further vocational training.
Aims & Ethos. The Sylvia Young Theatre School seeks to create a happy working environment where students can enjoy learning, staff can enjoy teaching and students can achieve their potential academically, vocationally, socially, morally and creatively.
Marble Arch, Edgware Road, Baker Street and Marylebone station are all within walking distance to the school. The Sylvia Young Theatre School is non-denominational and co-educational. Our students range from 10 to 16 years of age. We are a small school of around 250 students and value our ‘family atmosphere'.
